Good 5\' Rotary mower

Hi,

I have a Kubota 2650 GST - 23HP PTO/Engine 29HP. I have been told by the dealer that a 5' Rotary cutter would work for me. I cut grass and very small saplings. Have looked areound and would like something for under $1000, What brand do you like. Any thoughts on Landpride or Howse?
Thanks

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

I've heard that landpride is a good mower. I've used Howse exclusively because that's what came on my first tractor, and I stayed with Howse when it was time to upsize for the TC33D.

I've had good use out of the 5' Howse. I do some casual mowing for neighbors and have found a lot of rocks with this mower. Apart from sharpening the blades and tightening the stump plate on its shaft a couple of times, I've had no problems to speak of.

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

First Choicee and Midwest have good reputations around here with members. I bought mine before they were available and got a King Kutter that has served me well. I have a JD 4200 HST with 27HP and maybe 22HP at the PTO. I think it was only about $500-$600 and well worth the money to me.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

I've been getting good service from my Howse. At first I didn't think it would hold up very well, but it's doing fine and has encountered some "solid" competition with no damage. A good value mower in my opinion. If I had the money, I'd buy a Woods, or one made by the same company (Landpride?). John

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

I have been using a Howse 6' for 4 years. I mow 2-3 acres every 3-4 wks and another 8-10 acres 3 times a year. In addition, I have cut a fair amount of brush as I am reclaiming the areas around my overgrown creek and fencerows. I have cut down some pretty large cedars and saplings and have hit some large chunks of wood that have floated out of the creek. Never had a problem with it. Paid $500 for it.

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

Thanks for all of the input guys. The pricing I have so far for a 5':

Howse $605
KingKutter $769
Landpride $900

I have a couple of other calls to make but it's starting to look like Howse.

Regards,

Bill

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

You might want to check on a bush hog brand Razorback. It is a 5' cutter, around 550.00 usually, and I have been using mine for 2 years now with no problems. Nice little cutter.

Re: Good 5\' Rotary mower

That's an awfully high price on the King Kutter. Also, I'd really suggest you check out Midwest or First Choice. Far better quality than Howse or KK in comparisons I made at very competitive prices. I think a couple of member/advertisers here offer them with very reasonable shipping.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"That's an awfully high price on the King Kutter. "

$769 for a 60" KK probably includes the chain guards. Figure $550 to $570 for the cutter without the guards. I'd wager the other cutters Oregon1 listed don't have them.

$900 is a great price for a 60" Land Pride though...I paid just over a thousand for mine...
