I haven't seen any recent comments on CBP. Last I knew, they were a broker, not a dealer. This means that you are the importer. Not sure about the laws in Canada, but the importing and EPA laws in the US are a pain. I know of a couple of cases where people purchased tractors through them, and were disappointed with the support they received. Allot of that was probably due to the fact they didn't realize that they were importing and not buying from a dealer. Last I knew, all warrantee parts come from China, and there wasn't a supply on this continent. Unless they specificly say so, the only documentation that you will receive is the standard Jinma manuals. It does not include assembly instructions. I would proceed cautiously and carefully. Make sure you understand what is involved and don't get surprised afterwards.

Thanks JohnS. I'm thing of buying a Jinma with backhoe and loader. i have 15 acres. do you think a 284 would do or should i get a 304 or 354 .

Depends on what you plan to do on that 15acres. Bigger is generally better, but if you are doing lawn maintenance, the 304/354 will leave deeper ruts. There have only been a few time when I wished that I might have gone for a 304/354 vs my 254/284. I have 60acres, but that doesn't mean I take care of all the land with that. Tell me more about the primary uses that you forsee for your tractor.

I live in Virginia on a creek that feeds the Potomac River. I presently have a 1982 Allis Chalmers 5030 2 cylinder diesel tractor with 5’ bush hog, 4’ landscape rake and 7’ grader blade. The Allis Chalmers has water filled rear Ag tires and does create some ruts in the dirt after it rains. My land has a lot of white clay and does not drain well so I have to plan my mowing accordingly. The lot is pretty rough. I rented a New Holland backhoe for a week to put in a 100 ft back road to the water and to dig and place a new septic tank and drain field. The backhoe pretty much destroyed my property with many ruts. And the gravel delivery trucks destroyed my front road. I plan on using the unit to dig some ponds, do some terracing, move and spread gravel, bury some power and water lines and fill in some of the wetlands on my property with excess dirt from a swimming pool I’m putting in this spring. I will also use it for mowing with my bush hog and removing snow (none yet this year). One of the primary reasons I was considering the 304 is an ego thing I did not want a wimpy looking tractor. The 30hp looks much beefier looking in the pictures in the northern tool catalog. But all that aside I should be practical. So what do you think?

Ok, I thought you were in Canada, but that is just CBP which I knew was out of there. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif If you go with them, make sure you use the TPEM EPA exemption or maybe one of the new EPA certified tractors, if available. You will still have lots of work and research to do. Take you time and consider it carefully.

Alternatly, check at one of Northern's VA stores. I've heard you get better deals than the advertised price. Also check with Emerybuilt. I have seen positive input from buyers, and seen good crate and assembled prices. Niether will match the import price, but you won't have the long wait, headaches, and risk. There are many other stateside dealers that can quote you crate pricing, with shipping, as well.

If you were going to be doing regular finish mowing, the smaller tractor would make more sense. No turf option on 304/354, but you might not want that for hills anyway.
If doing allot of hoe work, probably better off with the larger tractor. Even with the larger tractor consider making a frame mount for any 3pt hoe you get. Your implements would be fine on either size tractor. For anything outside of goldfish ponds, that is the work for big dozers. If choosing 304/354, stay with Y395 engine, for better part support.

Another option is the Kama. It is becoming more popular, especially in the larger sizes. Pricing might be close too. Check on FEL and hoe options. If interested, Chip would be a good person to yak on the line with. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Like John stated by all means give the dealers near you a call. Even if it cost a couple hundred more, the peace of mind and support is more than worth that. I'm sure you will find out in the end with the port pick-up and possible problems you would be ahead in the end buying from a dealer. Many good and reputable dealers around.

I second the vote for Gary at Emerybuilt. Give him a call. Really nice knowledgeable guy that won't let you down.
