The Kennedy sixth floor museum at Dealy plaza is well worth a visit

Flower Mound and Plano are some close, neat cities to visit. Flower Mound once had the title of the safest town in Texas.

There are some great museums in Ft. Worth. The Amon Carter Museum, Kimbell Art Museum and Cowgirl Hall of Fame are all close to one another. The Sid Richardson is also a great one and close to some good lunch stops at Sundance Plaza.

Friends have been there and they really liked it, but I've never been and I only live 2 hours away from DFW. I've lived here for 18 years and I absolutely hate going to Dallas or anywhere in that area. It's all traffic, all the time, with roads that make no sense at all, with toll roads all over the place to get more money out of you when the frustration of how bad the traffic is finally gets to you.

The only thing that I've done in the Dallas and Ft Worth area that I would do again is go to Cabelas.

Otherwise, I would be asking what there is to see and do within a days drive of Dallas that gets you out of that area.

I hate the city as much as anybody around here on this forum would.

That said, spent a day in Dallas after a wedding woth my wife and father, and loved walking around the city.

Heck, took the family (with father) to National Habor the other year and took the old Metro into DC and LOVED DC (although I despised it 20 years ago when I worked there and swore I'd never go back).

I hate cities and wouldn't want to be near one. However, if I'm only visiting, I'm not that dumb not to be able to appreciate what a city can offer.

Sooner or later I may even take my boys to a play on Broadway, and I swore I'd NEVER ever step foot in NYC.

Washington DC is one of the most impressive cities I have ever visited. A few times, since a friend lived in Rockville. MD. That, and it's generally great climate.

I'm in Boston all the time... it is by a wide margin the worst traffic and traffic patterns I have seen in this country.. worse than NYC and similar to Brooklyn. ..We had friends here a couple weeks back who live in Honolulu where they said traffic is horrible...until they witnessed Boston first hand.

My intent was not about the traffic as much as to bring up that it's a really horrible experience driving anywhere in the Dallas area. For me, there is nothing in the Dallas area worth dealing with the traffic if there is any other choice. A lot of people here in Tyler will fly to DFW to avoid having to drive there and back, even though the layover can be five or six hours.

As for big cities that I enjoy, Rome is the only one that I want to go back to and spend more time there. It's unlike any other big city that I've been to in the world, and did I mention how much I hate big cities?

I'm certainly not a city boy...I dislike people in general so being surrounded by thousands of them at the same time...makes my skin crawl...

My buddy from Red Oak (south of Dallas) describes the metro drivers as "aggressive".
I concur.

My Mom and her travelling companion once bought, like $50.00 (adjusted for inflation) ice cream cones in ROME! Must have almost killed my Moms friend, that was so tight with her money, she used to mend her undergarments, on the deck of various cruise ships they went on. lol

I was at a conference in Dallas a few years ago. As part of the conference we had a tour for the Cowboys Stadium. It was a very impressive thing to see and well worth the money and time. It was probably the highlight of the trip as I look back. I went on the tour with an associate that is a Steelers fan / cowboys hater and he also really liked the tour. Impressive place.

I have been to Dallas more than I ever wanted to, but some day I may go back and try one more time to see Daley Plaza a little closer.
The first two times I tried traffic was so bad and being by myself I could not even consider trying to find a parking spot.

As far as drivers being aggressive, they are about as aggressive as any other metroplex, the freeways get crazy and can stack up in a matter of seconds.

Another thing to see is the Grease Monkey Garage, it was cool, since I enjoy the show.
not sure if the Grease Monkey Bar n Grill is still open, be careful there, the waitress spilled a beer on me
