Goats and fencing

I have a simple rule for goat fencing. When it will hold water it will hold a goat

So the answer is simple; build a swimming pool, don't put water it and add goats.:laughing:

We have 4 adult goats, sometimes 7 when we borrow a male and have a couple extra females. We use pallets for fencing after they destroyed our box wire fence that was also used to contain chickens. Ours are Saanen goats, and so far have not even tried to jump over it. They've been unable to climb the vertical walls either, and they're always willing to come out to eat the taller grass. Best part is all the pallets were free.

I agree with the feeding them on a schedule will generally keep them around.

But at least with our 2 pygmy's

any flowers, prized plants, or even hay or grain they are great at getting into things and making messes... what did we expect- they're goats:laughing:

Goats are a a royal PIA. Unless you love em,do something else. They WILL get out of most everything but an electrified stockade

We raised goats for over 20 years, at one time we had 68. we never had any get out side the fence. We had 4 strans of wire and all were hot once they got into it they never tried it again. Theses were the borer meat goats and all were D horned at birth. Depending on how you get into goats they can be a very high maintenance animal.

I raised goats for meat and milk for about 25 years. I used 6' chain link for the pens. The only escape I had was in a pen where I did not run a wire through the bottom of the fabric. I built some housing for them using T100 siding, which they proceeded to eat until I covered it with chicken wire. Wooden fencing might work in a large pasture, but I would keep an eye on it.
