GM unveils new 6.2 1/2t specs

It's lower in percentage than the old 2012 Malibu was. Be real hard to figure out the actual fleet sales numbers are for each model for 2013.

Fleet sales are usually on price. Not what a customer wants and is willing to pay for.

Fleet sales (other than rental) are quite often based on total cost of ownership. Not just the initial purchase price, but maintenance, fuel, expected repairs, insurance, etc.

I was just pokin' fun... in reality all vehicles are crap, some get luckier than others, others just deal with the problems as they arise. I have not seen one brand that is golden, and if you averaged out the problems of the top 3 truck manufacturers over any 20 year period, I think they would come out pretty close.

I agree.

What I would love to do is swap a Cummins into my Super Duty!

But as RollingsFarms said, if they want to be 1st, the have a lot of work to do. If they want to be mid-pack, then, yeah, they've pretty much accomplished that goal, and are essentially guaranteed to sell lots to rental agencies and keep the ATP, and subsequent resale value, down. However, if they want to be near the top of the pack and make good money on the car, then yes, they have lots of work to do.

You hit the nail on the head. The review I read said it was going strait to rental fleets. Seems like a common theam of swinging and missing the nail more than the hit it.

Nice. I keep hearing rumors the Ford EcoBoost is due for a power increase of about 40hp and 40 ft tq. If they are on par with one another it would be interesting to see them head to head.

This also makes the diesel offerings look less attractive unless they can pull in a low 30mpg average.

Chris

Chris,

These are deadhead (empty cargo) numbers...don't the diesels shine when loaded vs. gassers?

If so, what this says is diesels ain't for the grocery-getter set anymore.

Diesels accell at economy under load.

2013 Light-Duty Challenge: Mileage Drive - PickupTrucks.com Special Reports

The EcoBoost only bested the Ram in PUTC's recent 1/2 ton loaded fuel economy test.

A few things to keep in mind:

1) The Ford EcoBoost is the oldest of the big 3. Just wait for the new EB next year
2) The EcoBoost is rated for the most torque, so it has the ability to tow more. Compare the vehicles with like towing numbers
3) The EcoBoost beat all but the GMC empty.

EcoBoost is about the fuel economy empty, but the ability to tow heavy when you need it.

Not to mention EB doesn't require premium fuel and doesn't have AFM which I don't trust.

While I won't say that I don't trust AFM, it hasn't been shown to be as effective as some once thought.

It would be interesting to see an EB with AFM. A single turbo pushing 3 cylinders of a V6? Hmmm....

I think the next real advancement in engines and fuel economy technology is going to be electronically actuated valves. Can you imagine removing all of the hardware and friction that goes along with it?
