GM unveils new 6.2 1/2t specs

The better fuel mileage will be offset by repair bills down the road. Like anything new the technology is plagued by issues.
Bad injectors, faulty high pressure pumps, intake runners and ports that won't keep themselves clean (gasoline engines) mean more maintenance down the road.
All of the European cars with direct fuel injection have issues and are not cheap to repair.

I love this technology also but buyer beware. You must use fuel injection cleaner on regular basis to keep these injectors from plugging causing cold misfires and pesky check engine light. The nozzles are so very small it is hard to see with the naked eye.

I see these every week or two. PITA to clean, expensive chemicals and labor = money for the repair guy, end of story. The harder you drive these things the cleaner they stay.

1982! Really? That service tech is probably dead by now. If I banned every place I have bad experiences my selection would be minimal and I would be missing out on superior products and settling for less.

I would like to be interested in this. But I bought a new GMC 3/4 ton 4WD in 1982. The dealer treated me so bad on fixing problems, I took a life-time ban on GM products that extends to all members of the immediate family. Traded the pickup to my brother in law for a building plot, put up a spec house, and made some money. So it ended OK but there are easier ways to build a house. :)

My neighbor won't buy another Chrysler product after having problems with a new Jeep.

Honestly, I think it has more to do with some people "believing" that by not buying a certain manufacturers product that they had issues with in the past, it somehow "hurts" the manufacturers business. Almost more of a "revenge" than anything. Unfortunately, it only ends up affecting the individual, and they miss out on something that could otherwise be a very good product for them.

But hey, to each his own...

What is even worse is an example like my father in law who was told by his fleet manager in the early 80's that "brand x" had transmission problems and "brand y" had engines problems so buy "brand z". Guess what, he has never bought anything but "brand z" ever since even though the other brands have reengineered out those problems of the past, 5 generations ago.

Every year it is a new ball game with new players taking the field and a different team winning the World Series. This example may not work for cub fans though, their engineering hasn't made improvements in a long time.

Goodness. Didnt mean to get folks riled. I did run into a bad dealership and I did trade that pickup off, but the "ban' is a long-standing family joke that I can see didnt translate too well on this forum. Hey, I even put a happy face to show it was a joke! For the record, I've had an El Camino and a Grand Prix since. As well as Dodge, Ford, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Fiat and Subaru. Never been too concerned about vehicle brands. The bottom line for this thread, in my view, is that this is an interesting time for light trucks with new engine and transmission technologies coming out. I now have a 2012 F150 ecoboost, not perfect by any means, but an example of the useful innovation that seems to be happening.

Pat,

My post about that wasn't directed at you, I was more referring to people I know who are like that. Sorry if it came off as directing it at you. :)

I definitely didn't get riled. I even questioned the seriousness of your post with the question "really ?" and joked death. Glad to hear you have an open mind and a fellow ecoboost owner.

Except, if you are talking about truck sales, the same team wins the World Series year after year after year. 30+ years now. Ford F-Series! :)

And the Cubs also have one of the biggest following of loyal fans...

Obviously doesn't mean they are the best team.
