Does anone know if GM uses Dexron in the power steering pumps? I have a 1986 GMC Medium duty truck but all the service manual says is to use 'GM Power Stering Fluid' with no reference to Dexron. If there is indeed such a thing as special power steering fluid on older GM vehicles, I wonder if it would be the same as tractor hyd oil, which would seem heavier than auto trans fluid.

I had an 88 suburban that had dextron for fluid. Had no problems or leaks. Its still going today. There is power steering fluid sold in auto parts store. Basically its the consistency of 10W oil or same as tranny fluid which is usually cheaper.
