glow plugs on 2305

If you're able to start your 2210 from idle, that probably means you never reset the idle from the approximately 1300 or so rpm that they had it set at when delivered. I've reset my 4010 to idle at 1,000 rpm. You need it up around 1,300-1,500 when really cold. My Benz is the same way; you have to push down on the pedal and hold it or turn the dial on the dash that holds it. The Benz still starts INSTANTLY after glowing 2-5 seconds now at 196k miles and 23 years.

Yup, the 2210's Yanmar 3TNE74 does have glow plugs (part #AT110814). Also, per the service manual's schematic, it appears that the glow plugs stay on as long as you hold the ignition key in the start position (see attachment). From battery (magenta depicted wiring) to ignition keyswitch out to glow plugs (green depicted wiring).
