Glove Bungee

[Estif]

I saw that bungee cords might be among the things kept in a tool box, but I use the bungees themselves to hold the tools. One of the uprights for my FEL has a machete as a permanent resident, held by a bungee. The same upright often carries a shovel, too, again held by a bungee.

But the picture shows my real innovation. Actually, I don't know how innovative it is. For all I know it might be self evident and SOP for everyone else here. But it took me over a year to come up with this scheme for keeping gloves, hat, towel, and so forth at hand but not in the way. Just stretched a bungee along a fender like so, and I can keep my gloves and other things tucked in there, ready but not in my way.

Well, it wasn't for me... but I think it will be tomorrow. {smile] My glove storage method had been to place them on the seat then placing a 200 lb.+ 'weight' on them to secure them in place. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I store mine "somewhere" on the operators platform on my NH1920.... location varies.. usually tucked under the seat.. but i see that I'm going to go get a bunjee tomorrow... thanks,

Neat! I "discovered" this by accident, while looking for a place to hang my bungees while I had the tarp off the tractor (my blue barn as we call it). I hooked them between the hand hold and over the rear of the fender, and since have stuck just about anything there out of necessity more than forethought. I even found that by having a few there together, and sliding them up the handle so they are sort of "in the air", you can spread them and stick your water bottle in there. It isn't a permanent solution, but it worked in a pinch.

A caution on bungies: if they break, slip out of your hand, get tweeked by a passing branch etc the flying hooks can do surprising bodily harm.

Right on - I always stay out of the line of fire, because it isn't that they're gonna break, it's that I'm gonna let one slip. Ever catch that wire end up 'side the head, or in the lips?

The most frightening bungee cord story I ever heard didn't involve an injury. A guy who worked for me was putting a tarp on an open top semi trailer. He was almost done and only had some short bungees left. He hooks one onto the tarp and is really having to stretch it out to get the bottom hood onto the rod on the side of the trailer.

He has both hands on it down at the end as he's standing on the tire so he can use his weight. The bottom hook in his hands is at his chest when it slips from his grasp.

The cord misses him but the hook catches his eyeglasses right off his face and sends them flying over the trailer. All I could think was how close that came to his eye. I've never looked at bungee cords the same since.

We recently transported a truck driver ( from his home) that was putting a tarp over a load of wood at the Home Depot warehouse when the tarp eye ripped and the bungee cord hit him above the knee and broke his femur (thigh bone). He said it wasn't until the 3rd time he tried to get up that something was seriously wrong. I never imagined they could generate that much force.
