My apologies to you all. I was too busy to type any comments yesterday - posted only a link. I wanted to get back to it today and write a short description of the movie I found very interesting.

UK (C4) Documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle - Google Video

The movie pretty much proves that global warming is a scam.

Scam used by different people for different things:

- newspapers and TV use it to get hot headlines
- scientists to get grants. Just mentioning global warming when asking for goverment money increases their chance to get the grat
- and for the former presidential candidate it is a political vehicle to make himself visible - and to make some cash.

The movie is over an hour long but it is time well spent.

The director of "the great global warming swindle" is Martin Durkin. Durkin's resume is very interesting. If you google him you will get the jist of it. However Wikipedia sums it up nicely providing links and references. Apart from his documentaries that have sex in the title, here are the highlights of his life's work. I am cutting out much information to keep this post to one page. Keeping only the unflatering bits that make my point. Please read the Wikipedia page to get a more complete view.
Martin Durkin (television director - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Against Nature;
Against Nature was subsequently investigated by the Independent Television Commission of the UK, ..... the Commission also concluded that Durkin had misled his interviewees about the nature and purpose of the documentary, and that he had misrepresented and distorted their views by editing the interview footage in a misleading way [2]. For these reasons, Channel 4 later issued a public apology on prime time TV.[3]According to The Independent, Durkin "accepts the charge of misleading contributors, but describes the verdict of distortion as "complete tosh." [4]

Equinox:
The 1998 documentary on breast implants was shown on Channel 4 only after it had been rejected for broadcast by the BBC whose in-house researcher concluded that Durkin had ignored a large body of evidence contradicting his claims in the program.[1] Another researcher hired by Durkin to work on this same documentary allegedly quit her job, claiming that her research had been ignored and that "the published research had been construed to give an impression that's not the case."

Modified Truth:
Dr. Mae-Wan Ho, a scientist featured on the program, later said of her participation in the program: "I feel completely betrayed and misled.

The great global warming swindle:
Professor Carl Wunsch (professor of physical oceanography at MIT), stated that he was "completely misrepresented" by Durkin in his documentary.
Durkin was also questioned by the Independent newspaper regarding the origins of a graph of global temperatures in recent years that was crucial to his argument. He was also quoted in the independent as saying "The original Nasa data was very wiggly-lined and we wanted the simplest line we could find". [10]

The Wikipedia article has been protested as not being neutral. However after reading the protests it seems the discussion centers around the description of the Revolutionary Communist Party as being "far right"

Well when you take a copy of that movie out into the real world and wave it around, maybe all the missing ice from the poles and glaciers will reappear, the Polar Bear habit will heal itself, Killer Whales will go back to their customary areas, birds will not be seen far north of their normal range, CO2 levels in the atmosphere will magically decrease to about what they were 50 years ago. Do I need to go on?

It sounds like you mean well, but I think you saw Mr. Gores movie and actualy belive it.

The ice melt in Antarctica is well documented, but overall, the mass of ice is increasing.

Polar Bear populations are on the increase. Canada has had sport hunting for them for years and the Fish and Game in Alaska wants to open hunting for them there too. There are so many bears that overpopulation is becomeing a concern!!! Bears seen out hundreds of miles from land are very common, they can swim that. The reason they are out there is they are hungry and too many bears have cut down on the food supply.

Killer Whales are in their normal areas. Pretending that there is a defined boundry is just plain silly. Same thing with birds. They have always gone where they want and will continue to do so. Believeing that there is some natural boundry to where animals can and can't go just shows a very small understanding on what nature does. They also die allot when they venture too far out, but it's always happening and part of the natural order of things.

CO2 level have magically decreased over the years. Every chart out there shows it goes up, then it goes down. To assume otherwise isn't really taking history into account.

So far nobody has been able to prove that CO2 levels have anything to do with global temptures. Remember that the planets so called global tempature is actually down an insiginificant amount over the last 7 years. If CO2 levels caused the planet to heat up, why is it not happening right now?

Mars and the other planets are warming up. Why is it natural for them to increas in tempature from the sun, but here it's blamed on human activity? How come the sun isn't responsible? Why is global warming bad?

There are allot of glaciers that are growing, but the few that have shrunk are all you hear about. Sea levels have not risen and there is not evidence that they will anytime soon. Maybe in another thousand years when the sun continues to heat the planet to a sufficient level, it might happen, but then again, the charts that everyone is showing also indicate we might be at the peak of the warming trend. Less then one degree over the last century really isn't much cause for alarm.

As usual, your research is very helpful. It's sad when one side uses the same tactics of the other side to try and discredit each other. In the end, they both look foolish.

Amen Eddie. They (global warming advocates) hang their hats on CO2 increases as a major cause of global warming. CO2 is actually only about 5% of the total green house gases, the majority being water vapor. The Earth may be warming (I don't think it is) but has done so after each of the many Ice Ages. The scare is just an excuse for tree hugging liberals to get the rest of us to give up our modern conveniences, researchers to get huge government grants, and other countries to get the US to stop economic growth. Now I think I'll go burn some fossil fuels in the tractor and maybe cut down a few trees.

When you look back at history and understand the relationship between earth temperature and CO2, you will find that CO2 does not drive temperature, but the other way around. The biggest producer of CO2 is the ocean, when water heats up (from an over active sun) C02 is released. So us reducing the amount of C02 will not reduce temperature of the earth. If you want to do that, you better find away to stop solar flares. Start a solar flare tax if you want.
