I was at my dealer today to pickup some SUDT and he had a new GL5240 HSTC on the lot.
As I discussed in an earlier thread I am looking for a GL40 HSTC tractor to replace the M5040 Cab tractor that I sold.
I don't really need a 5240, I think either a 4240 or 4740 Cab tractor would be fine.
I had spoken to my dealer earlier about getting either the 4240 or 4740, neither of which he had in a Cab on his lot.
Today he asked if I wanted to take the 5240 Cab for a test drive......
I am glad I took the test drive. I have had 2 cab tractors, the M5040 which I sold and a B3030 which I still own.
One of things I was concerned with on a GL series Cab tractor was HST whine..... the HST whine in my B3030 is very annoying.....and the M5040 had no whine, and was a very quiet Cab.
I was pleased how quiet the Cab was in the 5240, even when I ran the engine up to PTO speed. It was very impressive!!! The difference in the Cab noise between my B3030 and the GL5240.....no comparison!
The one thing that I was a little concerned about was the seat in the 5240....it seemed very stiff to me.....and not nearly as comfortable as the M5040 seat, and not to much different then the B3030 seat. Now i am only about 140lbs, and with the seat adjusted to soft setting it didn't seem to be as comfortable as the M5040 seat was. Maybe the seat needs to be broke in..... I don't know.....I do know that the seat itself is not enough to keep me from purchasing a Grand L Cab tractor.
I hope to decide exactly which model of GL cab tractor I will get......and it might even be the 5240 which is at my dealer.
