YIKES..someone above had to be looking over operator shoulder to live thru that..whew.
doesn't it make you wonder how long
an engine could run like that without any fuel?
seems odd to me that it could happen for any longer
than a few seconds.
Apparently the tractor operator had little tiny eyes, and everything looked small, and he knew absolutely knew nothing about ft per sec. The sound from the train must have been quite deafening.
Here's a video that almost illustrates what I mean...lol (lucky bugger!)
I bet the clutch was worn out on it, but he was in hurry and didn't want to split the tractor in the usual way.
The double set of tracks might mean two trains were passing each other in opposite directions. When the one on the tracks closest to him cleared the crossing, perhaps he started to cross at just the exact moment the second one came through and he was just too close to hit the brakes in time to not drive into the side of it.
