If the tractor was any closer to the train the operator might of had his toenails clipped as well.

APRIL 2003. Medic 1 and Medic 2 responded to a farm-tractor / train accident north of McColl. Arrived on scene to find a John Deere tractor having been struck by a freight train. The tractor driver and train engineer both escaped injury. In the pictures below you can see the entire front of the tractor having been ripped off. The tractor motor, lying on the ground, was still running.

New colors, green, yellow, and a large brown stain were noticed.

""The tractor motor, lying on the ground, was still running"".

Wow, I always thought their marketing dept. was full of it. I guess "Nothing runs like a Deere" is actually literal. Can't think of a better test to prove the corporate motto.

doesn't it make you wonder how long
an engine could run like that without any fuel?

seems odd to me that it could happen for any longer
than a few seconds.

There would a few minutes worth of fuel in the filter if it was at idle. Have to wonder if it was getting any oil laying on its side like that though. Probably the engine was scrap anyway, be lots of broken mount points and stripped out threads I expect.
Very bad case of operator error, even wide open in top gear he should have had ample time to see the train and get stopped. Not like he had something heavy on the back by the look of the photos.

Apparently the tractor operator had little tiny eyes, and everything looked small, and he knew absolutely knew nothing about ft per sec. The sound from the train must have been quite deafening.

My thoughts exactly, I never have understood how it could be possible to to be hit by a train, by you not! seeing or hear it coming..... if your even half blind you ain't suppose to be driving in the first place, and if your deaf?
well then you rely and put more focus on your sight, right! how ever if your both deaf and blind and crossing a RR track while a train is coming,
then I guess this make you Deaf Blind and ((Dumb)) and of course dead:cool:
this dude was very very lucky
and if you notice it was a straight section of the track and he got hit in the front, its not as though he was trying to beat the train and get clip from the rear, I think its a clear case of attempt suicide on his mind...
