Ghost?

Was looking through some pics' of when I brought my tractor to it's new home.... Flipping through the pics I see some sort of whited out portion of the image above. Showed my better half the pic; and she is skeptical that it is something "interesting". I asked her to explain and she said that any number of things could have made that splotch on the picture. I think it is cool and thought I would share with you!! I took the pic with a older cannon digital camera that takes lower quality pictures than even the new cheap phones can now take. Its super setting (big pics) is 2mb.

Anyway what are your thoughts when looking at the picture? What is in question is just above a stump with a chainsaw sitting on top. I can assure you that there is no trickery here as I barely know how to use a camera much less mess with an image. No other image has that super bright splotchy in it....only the one above

Was pic taken using a flash? May be a reflection off something shiny on the chainsaw.

I was trying to figure out the direction of the sunlight. There are no strong shadows around the tractor, but could it have been in the shade?

The vents on the house and the object on the left-hand side of the house appear to be reflecting light from the left. So, could the "ghost" be the reflection of sunlight from a shiny object near the chainsaw?*

No flash was used on the camera. Distance from where I was standing was a long way from the house. It may look deceiving but the tractor is smaller than the house (even though they look the same size). Thanks Moss for spelling Ghost correctly; and fixing it . Wife gave me a hard time when I mashed the Post button!

Chainsaw that was used to drop the tree and was far from shiny I am stumped as to what it is, "No pun intended".

I even tried to google the glitch and nothing was found that looked like what I snapped with the camera.... I knew I would get some comic relief, but it still makes me wonder what it is. It is so much brighter than the light that was left 'on' outside the house and the sun was setting just over the mountain. Looks like you guy's are in favor of my better half's argument. Perhaps someone out there can give some insight as to what it is, wife is calling it an alien and busted my chops all evening.

Anyhow, it may be a case of "lens flare".

Light (probably the sun) came in from a side angle, and exposed that spot on the image. It looks like pretty good sunlight rippling through the trees back there. But, I could be mistaken. What time of day was the picture taken and what direction were you facing when you took the picture? Was the sun behind you or off to the forward side of the camera?

And it doesn't have to be the sun. It could be any source of bright light off to the side. There wasn't a yard light or car headlight off to your side was there?

The ghost of Stonewall Jackson searching for William Tecumseh Sherman! Actually, I haven't a clue. It appears to be from a light source of some kind, but don't think a porch light would cause that effect.

It's a spirit orb. When these "spirit orbs" or "angel orbs" appear near a single person or a group of people in a photo, it's a sign that they are blessed with the goodness, positive energy, and protection of angels. When orbs appear in a particular location, it's also a sign that angels are hovering nearby and the location is particularly blessed.

OR it's just a piece of dust in your lens reflecting light, happens most frequently with older digital cameras. I vote dust, you don't really believe in spirit orbs do you?!

smstonypoint - there are two lights affixed to the house and one was was 'on' the other was blown-out; equal distances from the door(s).

Light source? Here is a pic taken the same day, facing the other direction.



The sun had began to set and had past the point of any leeching through the tree's. There are no other car's because this is all part of my yard (back yard). Barn shows the setting of the sun on the façade. You can drive a tractor trailer around the barn as it is a circle drive back there. Pic(s) are dated the same and if you look closely you can see debris from the fell tree in both photo's. I never noticed this in the image as I was excited to have a new tractor, "never owned anything new before" and was focused on it instead. Thanks for the comments, at least someone out there kinda thinks like I do. Who knows what it is.... sure would take a lot of candle power to make a light that bright. There is a 60w bulb in the porch light and 'it' seems a lot brighter.

Was there anything else on the stump behind the chainsaw?

I think it is the sun reflecting off of the handle or something else on the stump.

You can see a narrow strip of sunlight where I put the arrows in your picture.
