Getting my new 4310 this Friday with a 61" heavy duty FEL and a 48BH. Can't wait to play over the 3-day holiday weekend!

Congrat's on the new tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm a little confused. Do you have a "Holiday" in Hopedale, MA. that we don't have in Michigan? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have lived in both New England and the Midwest, and as far as I can tell, the Northeast is the only part of the country that takes Columbus Day off. Up here in VT, it is a big fall/foliage long weekend, on par with Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Thanks.
That's why all the banks are closed next Monday. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't realize that Columbus Day was not a celebrated holiday elsewhere in the country. I guess when you live all your life (so far) in a tiny area like the state of MA that you just take things for granted. Anyway, Columbus Day is a recognized holiday in MA and much of N.E. and this year is celebrated on Monday, October 11th.

Congratulations Glagen! I hope you have a blast with your new toy. Make sure the dealer gives you the heavy duty backhoe bucket too. I just got my new tractor too and spend as much time as possible in the seat, 65 hours since the end of August. I commend you to follow the other members' advice and check into replacing the battery with a sealed unit. Mine started failing 2 weeks ago and has caused quite a lot of damage to the paint in that compartment. Good luck!

Dave4410,
Thanks for the info. Did your battery explode? I just had that happen in my PU. Is there a thread on battery problems?
BTW, I am not aware of a heavy duty BH bucket.

My battery didn't explode. I think the acid leaks out through the vented caps. Some of the other guys have suggested the Optima D51 as the only known fix for this common problem. It must be a sealed battery. I was hoping that you could mention this inherent problem to your dealer, before finding out about it the hard way, and that he might provide an Optima in your new tractor. I'm going to SEARS before the end of the week to try to get one myself. I mentioned that I recently bought a new 4410. I got the 48 backhoe with the 18" heavy duty bucket. It is quite a bit more rugged than the regular duty one and I find the size to be excellent for everything I've done with it. I think if you type OPTIMA in the "Search Forums For" box above you will learn all about the battery issue.

Dave4410,
Thanks for the battery info. I researched the tread on the Optima. Interesting. I will check it out with the dealer and/or keep an eye on whatever comes with the machine. I purposely got the std 12" bucket for the BH because I intend to do a lot of tree planting in landscaped areas and didn't want to disturb things too much. Later on, I will probably invest in a bigger bucket for other types of work like stump removal. Anyway, I hope to be in the seat this weekend. Any advice or tips on uses of the machine, etc. are more than welcome.

Mike,
The picture that accompanies your posts cracks me up every time I see it! Where did you get it? Perhaps there are some other gems along the same lines that I might adopt.

Your comments to mine and many other posts probably had the biggest influence on my decision to ultimately select a 4310 over a smaller machine. Thanks. Hope to keep in touch and seek other advice on uses of the machine. Can't wait to climb aboard, hopefully this weekend.

Too kind! You mean you found the post where I had something useful to say..?!

If you have half as much fun with that new tractor as my family is having with ours, well, you'll be have a whole buncha' fun!!

Keep an eye on those wheel lugs.

Be properly ballasted.

Take your hoe on and off on level ground.

If you can swing getting an Optima (Deere has one they brand, but maybe not one to fit a 4310...) Get it.

My wife just mentioned what we owe on ours. Far less than it'd sell for! She wondered if we would trade up to a 3720... I said if we don't we'll sure enjoy this one, but can't 100% rule out stepping up..
