Getting a fire started

Maybe not the right time of the year, but still..
I have a friend that tought me an easy and quick way to get the fire started in the stove of his cabin.
Before he leaves on sunday evening he fills one inch of heating oil (he actually uses jet fuel) in a 5 gallon bucket. Then he fills the bucket with firewood with the ends dipped into the fuel. Next weekend all the fuel is sucked into the firewood. He just puts the firewood into the the stove, lights one match, and the wood is burning calmly. No trouble! Recomended!

My thoughts too....... I use a sliver of lighter knot(petrified pine tree) under my logs.. A little peice will get it all going, just one per fire.. No odor, no trouble.. Maybe the same idea with the fuel, but instead of burning the whole log or continue burning it, you could try a sliver..

I use a propane torch. My neighbors call it cheating because it is so easy.

Some roughnecks up here put gas and diesel in a pump sprayer and load up the stove then spray. Smells real bad! they call it boy scout juice. I prefer to chop cedar kindelin..... meditative, if worst comes to worst i use pitch from a Douglas Fir or Pine. Pitch pine sticks rock.

Once its in the air then its everywhere ...once its everywhere than its always there..... pray for a safe warm hole in the ground
