I bought a R4041H last week and put 6.5 hrs. on it over the weekend, love it so far. I will be using mine for land clearing, firewood, and swamping. I paid 21,500. with Rim Guard and delivery, and the dealer (Robinson Equipment) welded two hooks on the bucket for me. Very nice experience with the Dealer. I wanted to make sure I got one with the tier 3 engine. I've only owned mine for a week but I think I made a good decision. The thing that won me over was the Loader capacity, much higher than the other tractors I was looking at. Go ahead Buy One!

Where is the Robinson Equipment you are talking about, I purchased mine at Paul Robison Company in Ohio.

Come on man, get a 4047H, everybody's doing it...

For the kind of work you're talking about, the HST is the way to go. If you said you were trying to stretch your budget to be able to plow/disc/etc large fields, maybe the saved HP would be worth getting the shuttle, but even that's a stretch.

My theory is that when dealers say they're selling mostly shuttle shift versions of LS tractors, it's not that people don't like the HST better, it's that many of them are on a very tight budget, and can jump up a lot in size by going with an LS, and the shuttle shift helps them maximize that. I suspect the enthusiasts on TBN might be a little more willing to spend the extra $, or might be a little better informed (since many people are still leery of HST systems). Then again, I could be totally wrong!

It is near Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Here is where they welded the bucket hooks

I would have welded them in line with the FEL cylinder arms. It gives you a more stable platform that way. They are likely stronger at the point that the dealer added them on with less likely to bend the bucket lip since they are right up against the bucket side wall.

I always but a reinforcement pad under any chain hooks. I make the 3/8" thick pad square and as wide as the top lip on the bucket. I have hooked as much as my tractors would lift and no sign of bending, even used the chain hooks to drag out huge trees that the tractors would spin all four wheels doing so without issues.

With regard to your tractor purchase, I would go with the 4047H for only $500 more in price. That is not a huge increase and you never know what the future holds, you may need those extra HP. Work that you do now might be done at a lower throttle setting also with the extra HP. Some folks with HST think they have to run the throttle wide open and then half down on the pedal, I don't do that with my Kubota. I rarely run more than 2000 RPM which seems to be the sweet spot in the engine when it runs the smoothest without excess noise.
For my LS P7010 with shuttle shift, I rarely run it more than 1500 RPM when rotary cutting. I use the 750 PTO speed and just throttle it back and gear up to the right speed to do the same work with less fuel. I think you might do the same thing with the 4047H although I am not familiar with the smaller LS tractors, hopefully they have the 3 speed PTO gear like the larger ones.

Unfortunately, no, just a 540 PTO gear.

I think he said that the $500 extra was to go up to the R4047 shuttle not the HST.

I just purchased the new XR4046HC cab model, it has the tier 4 engine, and it purrs like a kitten, I got it loaded with rimgaurd filled tires and the backhoe for $33,250 delivered. the Hydrostat trans is really smooth and for mowing the cruise control is great. I mowed about 20 acres this last 2 days, it was threatening to rain so I couldn't let up, I used a king kutter 72" finish mower on 18" tall damp grass and the tractor didn't even notice it was behind it. It was really cold and miserable out and that cab was so comfy, if you can spring for a cab model you definitely won't regret it.

Well at that price, with a cab, loaded tires, and a backhoe it doesn't seem like LS really increased there price very much for the tier 4 requirements. I'd like a cab tractor but it won't fit in the garage and I won't let them sit outside for any period of time so I guess I am out, no I am not building anything new at least not right now.
