I would not cheap out on the oil. I have a neighbor with a John Deere that tried oil other than what JD recommended. He said his hydraulics were not acting right after that until he drained the fluid and put the JD recommended fluid back in.

I think I paid $53 for a 5gal bucket of the fluid at the dealer.

Maybe generic brand isn't the right term. I'm looking for an equivalent brand to the NH product that would be a little cheaper in price not quality.

Good thing this isn't a John Deere

To the original poster.

Both Walmart and TSC UTF fluids meet the Ford / New Holland M2C134 specs... both oils are made by warren oil co.

TSC has 5g pails of utf on sale for 35$ .. at least in my county.. and walmart UTF oil is about 27$ per 5g.

( i've been running that oil in my varios fords for nearly 10 years now.. that includes a 70hp ford 5000 common sump job from 1975 to a NH 7610s at ~95 hp and a 2000 model. )

Thanks

I was checking out the uiversal fluid on the TSC website and it was around $35 but they were lacking on the technical specs I'll most likely give them a try.

I too have a 1710 Ford Tractor, and was wanting to try this oil. Thanks, this answers my question.

the walmart and tsc utf brands have cause me no issues. this thread is from 2009, but i'm still buying both brands.

tsc occasionally has a very vary cheap 'pure flow' brand on sale for as low as 20$ per 5g. for southern weather, again.. it's probably a fine utf for older tractors.. though in northern climates, it will get a bit thick..
