GEARBOX QUESTION ??

WOULD A GEARBOX FROM A BRUSH HOG WORK FOR A STUMP GRINDER PROJECT? ANY GEARBOX SUGGESTIONS. I USUALLY GET MY STUFF FROM EBAY.

The ratio of the gearbox will determine the rpm of your stump grinder. I believe someone just built one using a gearbox. How big a wheel, and how many teeth will you be using?
With a 3:1 gear ratio, the 540 rpm will give 1620 rpm on the output shaft. I am not sure what cutting tip velocity should be, but some of the stump grinding folks will probably chime in and enlighten us.

they have there spec, all listed, wheel RPM 980 24 inch wheel on the cutter,

this one always intreged me as it was 540 direct,

I used a 40HP rated gearbox that steps up by a ratio of 1.47 to 1., for a brush hog from Agri Supply. You didn't comment on your power source. Both Krusert and I were building at the same time.
