My deck started sounding a little different yesterday. I'm not certain it's a problem, but I'm concerned enough to double check my gear oil today. I was wondering if I should have done this earlier.

How often do you check the gear oil on your decks? I have never done mine (at 102 hours). I'll be doing it today. I do grease the deck fairly often (every 10-20 hours).

Also, I believe I am to just fill it to the top hole right? Anybody doing anything fancy here? synthetic?

I check my deck oil every time I grease it. I grease my deck about as often as you do. I believe Kubota reccomends changing the oil in the deck at 50 hours also and there after every 150 hours. Check that though as I migh be off. Also, I have the ground contact deck on a B7500 so I'm not sure it's the same for yours.

I just changed my oil in my deck for the first time. Here's a hint.....don't remove the drain plug first as it was under pressure after finishing the lawn and shot about five feet across the floor. What a mess!!!! I removed the breather which has a spring loaded check ball and found it to be working fine so I guess that's normal. Trying to remember if I have ever changed the oil in anything and not gotten some on the floor no matter how careful I was....

The gear oil on my MMM has never been changed, although it was checked the last time the machine was serviced. (This deck was on my BX2200 for a few years and is now used on my BX22). There is a noticable difference in sound level right after normal lubrication, however...much quieter. For that reason, I'm greasing twice a season now whether it needs it or not! I suspect that if you do a LOT of mowing, then the oil will need attention sooner than someone who mowes an average of once every two weeks through the season.

I have noticed the quiet operation post greasing. I pulled the deck off this AM and checked the oil level. It is ok. While I realize that it is to be done every 50 hours, I am guessing that it is just about 50 hours now, since 1/2 my tractors operation is loader and other uses (estimation). Either way,... I figure I have only 2 or 3 mowings left this year, so I am waiting until the season is over and I will go over it really well. The blades need sharpened etc. I did grease it and that seemed to help the sound level a bit.

I sent an Email to Kubota relating to the frequency that the MMM should be greased. Here is their response:

"Thank you for contacting Kubota. I suggest that you grease them after each ten hours of actual use. Apply grease until you see excess grease slightly weeping from the spindle shaft seals. This should ensure a long and reliable life for your mower."

Not sure why they did not include that information in the MMM Operator's Manual.

I check mine every 10-12 hours, when I do the grasing, etc. When at was at my dealers, I saw a BX MMM that a municipality had run out of gear oil. The dealer had guessed that it had never been checked.

I grease my every 10 to 15 hours.

I would change the gear oil out around 200 hr on the deck and fill it with a nice syntheic oil. The oil is cheap since it takes a very small amount (less then a qt).
