Gear box on..

48c JD mowing deck. was wondering if the fluid needs to be changed in there, It looks like it has an engine freeze plug in the top of it and a very small drain plug in the side, I asume its a drain plug anyway. Any thoughts? if so, I wonder if a synthetic would
make the straight cut gears a little quieter?

I would say change it after 100 hours with 80 - 90 gear lube. Synthetic is your choice, but it can't hurt. By the way, is it permissible to use a JD item on a Kubota without getting arrested where you live.
