Tractor
Massey-Ferguson 2410
Just purchased a low hour 2410. after i tried the differential lock, it stayed engaged. seems like the petal should have 2 cables, one to engage and the other to release. this is my first tractor. what am i missing?

Disclaimer: I know nothing about your machine, so someone else can probably give you a better answer.

But since you currently have no other replies, I'll offer this: The gears in the differential are often designed so that once the "lock" is engaged, they won't disengage as long as there is a load on them (that is, as long as the wheels are both doing work). When you begin driving under normal conditions (straight and not under load), the lock disengages automatically.

Again, I don't know your tractor, but what makes you think the differential lock is still engaged?

It should not stay engaged. After releasing the pedal, and moving a short distance, it should release. Check for sticky cable/linkage.

When I push the foot petal the opposite way (released) i get slack in the cable. Maybe the lock is still on since i tried this on my driveway, which i just read you should not do. going to get underneath and try to release it by the transmission by hand

Try that and post back.

I just looked at mine, there is a return spring, hooked to the bottom side of the linkage, the spring hooks to the bracket that the cable is attached to, between the tire and frame.
