GC2300 under load - what should give out first?

I've noticed that if I am in low range on my gc2300 and traction is really good, the hydraulics are the first to cry uncle. An example of this is trying to pull out a stump while on concrete. The engine will labor but keep running while the wheels remain stationary. Is this normal? I always assumed the tractor would keep pulling until the wheels broke free or the engine stalled.

In high range, the engine stalls if it doesn't like the load it's pulling.

This is normal. It's only a 22.5 HP engine (can't remember how much HP the pump transfers) and the tractor itself without you or any implements weighs ~1250 lbs. Your not going to break the wheels loose on concrete so the hydrastatic system has to give.

It can also depend on the angle of your chain attached to the stump. If it's attached above or inline with the height the drawbar you'll probably spin. If it angles down you are transferring weight/pressure to the rear axle, tires won't spin. example: my GC will spin all 4 wheels on hard packed gravel. If the box blade/scarifiers dig in too far, the tires will stop turning, and the rear tires are compressed .
Try too hard and it should start pumping through the relief valve so nothing gets damaged.

Perfectly normal . Better to do that than to break something on the tractor or implement.
