Tractor
GC2300
I was mowing up a steep ditch, and the tractor died on me. I let it coast back down the hill, fired it up, and then proceeded to climb again. Once again, it started to sputter, so I backed down the hill as quick as I could, and managed to keep it running.

Please note, the tractor did not power out.

Any thoughts on what it could be? I thought it might be the seat switch, so I was "bouncing" on the seat the 2nd time trying to make sure there was good contact. It didn't seem to help.

I had over a half a tank of diesel, so the tractor shouldn't have been starving.

The hill is steep enough that I can't climb it in 2WD, but it really isn't that steep. I'm pretty certain I could mow across it sideways. I used to with my JD L-120. The GC2300 seems to have a higher center of gravity, and I haven't braved going sideways on this hill yet.

I went up this hill a number of other times during the day, but I went up it really quick so as not to spend more than 5 or 10 seconds on it. No problems then.

Any thoughts on what happened?

I would top off the fuel and try it again. I have a very steep road back and my 2610 will sputter in it not completely full of fuel.

You might want to look at the fuel sediment bowl. If it is low, then it quite likely the fuel/lift pump is starving out and/or going bad. My Yanmar did that when it was going be, and it actually took a year before it became obvious.

My GC2400 routinely does hills (up and sown) and never starves/stalls. You were in low on the HST?

I would do that...mine died this weekend with 1/2 tank in the same situation. Filled it up, fired it up and mowed all day no other problems.

It wasn't a situation where you leaned forward --a natural reaction-- when going uphill? My seat switch will occasionally remind me to put my butt back on the seat!
