GC2310,
Here it is, the long awaited Skid Plate. It will be avaliable as a part for all of us unlucky early birds whom had to prove it should have had one all along.
I am told there is a problem with the drilling template (2 holes required), then we should be able to get our hands on them.

Will this be a warranty item or something to be purchased and installed?

Installed for free at the 50 hours service? Maybe a good reason not to have to pay for being hauled in for the 50 hour service - warranty item?

Don't expect a freebe, then you won't be disapointed.
Don't pay labor for 50 hour service! Do it yourself, its not that difficult.
It also gives you a chance to get to know your tractor. I did mine in less
than 2 hrs. with all synthetic oils, (cost twice as much as mineral oils),
for around $175.00.

Hey why are skid plates on some late 2006 tractors? Was that a test run? What brand of synthetic?

I agree on doing the service stuff yourself. The less the dealer sees the equipment - the better. Sure has been that way for my wife's car.

Doing your own service allows you to learn your machine.

My dealer considers the receipt for filters and fluids as proof of service.

But, all that said - Massey Ferguson is building and selling a device to improve a product (in this case it is a filter shield for use on a tractor). Hence, there was an error in the design of the original product (shield was not installed, which lead to damage during use). By making the improved product available (shield unit for installation) - the manufacturer has admitted that an error does exist (and their desire to correct the problem).

At the very least, the new device should be provided without cost to all concerned (tractor owners of affected models). Better, would be to install the product on any tractor still under warranty.

The skid plates went on the production line first, installation template and
other issues have kept them out of our hands. I have been on them about
getting this out there. It should not be much longer.
Did they make a mistake on the origional design of the tractor, SURE! but,
rarely is anything perfect in its origional form. When you are trying to design
something that you can sell at a REASONABLE price there are bound to be things overlooked. This is one of them, and they are correcting it.
If they had refined there design over and over and made the perfect tractor
most of us could not afford it!
To answer the oil question I use Amsoil synthetic in both the engine and trans.

Looking @ the pic in one of the earler post on this thread that doen't look very hard to copy. It looks very easy to fab. I don't own a 2310 but have been looking at them and the seem to be a good machine. They won't give you the part why not make it?

Thinking out loud

True many of us could make this or a completely different design.
I personally did not for 2 reasons:
1.) Finishing my house is a bigger priority.
2.) I wanted to see what the "geniuses" at MF would come up with.
Believe me if they try to "rob" us for this, "a fabricating I will go"!

I spoke with my dealer today about this part while scheduling my snow blower install. He stated this is the first he has heard of it and would look into it on cost and if it would be a retro fit or out of pocket upgrade. I am not holding on to my butt for a retro fix and am placing my money on the out of pocket option, unfortunately
