For those of you with a GC2310, what does your frame/linkages look like alongside the frame and up to the FEL posts? I'm in the process of building a backhoe and would like to see what differences there are to make it as close to "stock" as possible. Any kind of info (pictures/measurements) would be helpful! I'm not about to spend $1,400 to Wallenstein for their subframe... I have sufficient steel available and a welder to make it happen!

Regards,..

Well, that sounds like a heck of a project!

Just went out & looked at mine -- It appears to be 1/2" plate steel, bolted at the rear to the existing frame --but with some holes for existing frame bolts-- then extends forward, with a welded joint to a 3" wide beam that passes forward under the floor and eventually bolts to the FEL post. The rearmost section contains the "pocket" at the bottom and the holes for the BH mounting pins at the top. Lots of bends in the plate(s) to clear things under the tractor on the 2300 frame.

Note I didn't actually take a ruler out there and measure stuff, these are approximate dimensions. It's still dark out....

Here's a few pics.

Thanks Irvingj! It looks like it is pretty similar with the exception of what looks to be the brake lever (adjustment) system. Of course, the FEL post does not have the excess steel to bolt the subframe to, but it will!

Man what a project. You have a thread started somewhere for this with pics? Us welder fabricators and mobile hydraulic techs would like to see this!

I haven't started a thread yet, but I will. It is quite a project and I'm anxious to get it all fabricated and put together! I may draft a CAD drawing of it for you guys to see before it's all finished.

Darn shame you couldn't find a used one to fit, then the subframe is all you would need.

But the ones I have seen for sale, they want new prices for 'em.

I looked pretty extensively and even called a few places, but I couldn't even find a used subframe for this series of tractor for sale! Even in salvage yards.. They mainly deal with compacts and larger tractors though.. In fact, one of the guys I talked to said with a narcissistic tone, "Nah, I wouldn't have anything for that size tractor!".

There is almost zero chance anyone is going to have something like that for sale. These aren't like cars where there are thousands of most models sold for salvage each year. If a unit is usable, there is plenty of profit in repairing it and selling it complete, rather than parting it out, and waiting for their money.

What there are lots of, is used units for sale with the factory backhoe on them. And, if that doesn't suit you, really good deals to be made right now on new ones.

Before you get too deep into this, you should consider what it is going to cost to get all the materials, and how much time is going to go into it doing all this. You would very likely be way ahead, to trade it for a 2310, or other tractor that is ready to go. Just the time you will spend alone, is probably worth far more than the cost difference.

It would seem crazy, but if you really want your tractor with a backhoe, buy a 2310, take all the backhoe parts off it, and put them on your 2300. Then, sell the 2310 you bought as a 2300. Bet that would cost you far less money, and small fraction of the time.

It's certainly going to be better to have it all factory installed, if the day comes that you, (or your heirs), ever want to sell it to recover some of your investment.

I'm all for fabricating stuff. But this project seems like a bad idea.

First of all, welcome to TBN,

I agree with ray66, but it's your project and your decision.

Another thing to consider is you are listing your GC2300 at 1100 hours on it.

It is possible to do like ray is saying and maybe end up with a much lower hours use and even a factory installed BH...

Good luck, KC

Thanks guys for the concerns! Ray, that's actually really good advice and many times I've considered doing just that. But it's more of a hobby for me to fabricate things like this and at the end of it all look at this piece of machinery I made (as long as it's still in one piece...haha), appreciate the functionality and the added value. Not really concerned about the cost since I already have the majority of the material. Only few things I will need to buy are hoses, a hydraulic cylinder for the swing and a control valve. The bulk material is already on hand..
