My manual calls for hydraulic fluid in the front axle (2007 GC 2310) did they change the specs. since then? :confused2:
2010 GC2610TLB The factory manual calls for Permatron in the front axle.

The manual has always said, "MF Permatran 3 -OR- SAE 80 GL-4", which is gear oil.

The use of gear oil was also discussed with MF directly, by a member who had his gears fail.

I will also add that a senior engineer I know, who spent years working for TRW in failure analysis, highly recommended using the gear oil.

The hydraulic oil is fine. Gear oil offers a higher degree of protection, and EP gear lube offers the maximum degree of protection. None of which may be necessary, but will never hurt. In other words, it's cheap insurance.

When I did my 50-hr service I had the BH still on and used the outriggers to lift the rear of the tractor....

But Sunday, when I re-installed my 3PH pieces, I had the hoe off and noticed how much easier filling with hydraulic oil is going to be when I get to my 250-hr service (real soon). Definitely the way to go, IMO!

I also used a floor jack under the hitch plate when I removed the right rear tire to slide the 3PH hinge rod back in. I used Permatran equivalent from NAPA @ 50 hrs.

Irv ,just for future ref. you dont need to remove the tire or the hinge rod to install the 3pt hitch.just remove the bottom bolt on the bracket that holds the pin in (left side) and swivel bracket up out of the way.slide the pin back ,far enough to get the two swivel balls on to the pin, slide it back into the slot and replace the bolt.

Thanks for the tip!

Hmmm... I attacked it from the right side in a similar fashion, but I had totally removed all 3PH parts. When mowing the lawn and going from the "lower level" up the steep bank to the upper level, the lower 3PH arms would dig into the lawn. Kind of a sharp angle there.

Now I think I have a way to hold the lift arms up when mowing by removing the 2 lift links (disconnecting the lift arms), so I --hopefully-- won't have to remove everything again.

It appears that there's no way to raise & lower either the mower deck arms or the 3PH arms independently, as the MMM lift mecahnism is attached to the 3PH lift arms. --Unless I'm missing something?

I believe you are correct

I changed my trans oil without removing the wheel.

The screen just took a little wiggle to remove, then I used a magnetic pickup tool (spring mounted type), to remove any shavings. I like the pickup tool, because it will catch things that your eyes won't see in that small hole.

I'm also the one that had 'shards of metal' welded to the screen.
