Gauge wheel problems

I built gauge wheels for my rake but the wheels dont piviot around real well. I have noticed on some pics here that the wheels are set back on a angle is this the key to get the wheels to piviot freely. My wheels are straight under the piviot shaft.

Rob we made a set that didn't pivot also. Once they were offset from the vertical shaft they worked great. Yes, that's the key.

Yep, just need a little caster in the wheels. You may be able to cheat a little bit by shortening your top link.

I built mine at 30° which seemed to be the angle of other casters I compared to.
