New Holland TC24DA
Hi,

Well I cut the grass for the first time with my new TC24DA and a RFM RD 60" Buhler. The tractor had no problems powering this unit, but it is going to take me a bit to get used to it. At least I did not wipeout any of the shrubs and stuff /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif .

One thing I noticed in comparison to my old lawn tractor is that this deck did not appear to have the vacuum like the old unit. I am sure a lot of this is due to the rear discharge opening. On my old lawn tractor, if the deck passed over small tree branches (no bigger 1/4" inch or so) , it would take them and chew them up pretty good before discharging them out the side. With this RFM RD deck, it would just leave the branches in the grass and do nothing with them.

I have read a lot of the posts regarding the Gator blades, so I went to their site however I am not sure which ones would be best, the standard high lift or the magnum? I seen a post where Murph said they suck a lot of horsepower from the tractor, not sure if this will be a real concern for me or not?

Thanks for any advice on this!

Best Wishes,
Chuck

Maybe I used a bad choice of words. I should have said, "you can notice the difference in the amount of HP left". Also remember I have some pretty tough hills to climb. I think Gator blades with your set up your tractor would handle unless you have steep hills.. But can you put Gator blades on your mower? My New Holland Mid Mower has Gator Blades available but only from New Holland, you can't buy them from Gator. Others have said they don't like Gator blades as they end up with streaks and an uneven cut. I will get that if my deck isn't clean. However, my deck once cleaned seems to stay cleaner longer with the Gators. All of my comparisons are from New Hollands standard blade to the Gator, not New Holland Hi-lift blade to the Gator. New Hollands Hi-lift may do just as good of job as the Gator. Pricing the New Holland Hi-lift and the New Hollands Gator blade the Gator was ten dollars per blade cheaper.

You could take your blades off and then take measurements and see if Gator makes generic blades for your mower and try them.

If I was you, I would go back to your dealer/Buehler and complain. Tell them you are not happy with the cut. And then ask if they have optional blades available. In my mind Buhler does make a good product.

Thanks for the reply Murph!

I have spoken to Buhler and they are working with me on trying to get this sorted. I had also contacted Gator, but they were not really that helpful as I had asked them about the two different blades they offer. The dealer is great, I was just trying to see what my options might be.
