We had a break in last month. They cut four locks and stole several things. I know thieves tend to come back so I have gated the entrance as well as I can. It could be opened but it should at least be annoying and cause delay.

Alarms make criminals bolt even when nobody is around to hear them...some fake cameras from harbor freight might make them think twice.

What about putting some of the drywall screws that come in the plastic strip further up the road, You just have to remember to remove them when you come up.

I was thinking that if the gate is not too far from the building site (and AC power) run an power line up to the gate (you can bury it if not too far), and install a pole with a motion activated light on it. Also, as zmoz suggested, get one of those fake cameras.... or maybe a real one and install it on the pole.

If nothing else, get a trail camera used to take pictures of wildgame in the woods. You could attach it to one of the tree's and face it towards the gate so it might get a picture of a vehicle's license plate. It would be easy to test it with your vehicle to see if it would work.

Whatever you do, don't put nails or screws in the driveway as suggested, a county building inspector or power company worker will not appreciate it.

Folks need to look closer... He has a camera on the right hand post, and it looks like a couple of motion activated lights in the trees too.

Hard to tell but it looks like the chains could be lifted up and off the posts, making the gate ineffective. It isn't enough of a closeup for me to tell if the gate is secured otherwise. It looks like there are hinges bolted on there helping it stay put, but I'm not sure.

The gates are heavy corral panels. The hinges are made of vertical 5/8" bolts welded to horizontal 5/8 lag bolts. The nuts are welded to the 5/8" bolts so you have to cut them to lift the gate. The chains are welded to the gates.

I saw the solar panel, but to me it looks like the solar light (motion) I bought at Lowes.
Also looks like you could just drive around the gate?

Thieves are sure on the bottom of the gene pool barrel.

Here comes the "Home Alone" crowd again. Have they stopped a robbery with these ideas? Have they actually ever been robbed?

The mature trees are too dense on both sides to drive around the gate. The only place you could have driven through has a substantial rock in the way. Additionally the sides of the driveway are too steep for most vehicles.

This picture is from the inside looking out

make sure they can not use a pry bar. to bust open the lock. i see what looks like a pin holder in the middle of the gates just above the lock.

as far as motion detectors that take pictures. not worth your time. they are low resolution cameras. and they also give off a flash. flash = someone going over to camera and stealing the camera to. and night vision is not worth it.

your best bet, if you want to nail the thieves. is to get good lighting, and then setup a regular camera. that can see within the range of of the light bulbs you use.

if you have power and telephone line already ran to building site. you might be able to pick up some motion detectors. and a cheap security system. that calls your cell phone. then you could make choice of contacting police or not.

perhaps getting a cheap nightvision camera. and run cord like it is being installed in the given trench near the gate or on a gate pole, like it is a permanent camera. and posting signs. perhaps even just getting a intercom box. but not wiring it up, just hang it on the gate pole.

if ya have a enclosed trailer. put some fake cameras on it, with a piece of wire going through trailer. making it look like you have a recording device setup inside. with a wheel lock on a tire.

if it is teens, they have some ballz on them. they will double check things.
