My gates on roads going up/down hill only open one way. If it opened both ways, it would be too high off the ground when closed.

His appeared to be on a hill, too.

Why not just put in a cattle guard gate and not worry about a gate left open or closed.

I have always run the fence line and gate towards a level spot. This also helps when you accidentally (eventually?) don't set the brake.

Cattle guards are not allowed on my property. Having seen the legs cut off a horse and a cow getting them out is not pleasant.

My property is not level and some gates can only open one way.
