I HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED THE TRACTOR WOULD NOT START AFTER SITTING UNLESS I "PUMPED" THE CARB MANUALY. EVEN ON A WARM DAY WITH THE CHOKE ON IT WONT START WITHOUT 15-20"PUMPS. I CHANGED THE OIL, AND IT SMELLS LIKE GAS. ONCE I CHANGED THE OIL, AND RE CHECKED THE OIL, IT SMELLS LIKE GAS ALSO. THERE IS ENOUGH GAS IN THE OIL TO RAISE THE OIL LEVEL ON MY DIPSTICK ABOVE FULL. THE OIL ALSO LOOKS NEAR CLEAR ON THE DIPSTICK. IT RUNS OK, BUT SMELLS A LITTLE HOT AND THE OVERFLOW ON THE RADIATOR KEEPS SPITTING ANTIFREEZE.....PS I AM MECHANICLY ILLITERATE, SO PLEASE TAKE IT EASY ON ME!!!

Not familiar with your tractor but, if it has a carburator with a float and needle valve. I would bet the needle valve is stuck or stinking open,
allowing gas to drain into the crank case. This is not good. Correct the
leaky valve problem before you seize up the motor. Good luck

I've only had that problem on small engines; i.e., Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton, and as elad said, just needed carburetor work.

tommu56 has a good point.this could account for the need to pump the carb to get it to start.a new or rebuilt fuel pump may fix it.

I had my carb rebuilt last year. I have a guy coming over to look at it later this week. I dont use it for much more than plowing snow, but never the less try to upkeep it. I m a little confused. I see the carb, but not the fuel pump?????? am I blind?

Follow the fuel line back to the gas tank from the carburetor. The fuel pump is in between the two. We can furnish rebuild parts for your fuel pump, or a rebuilt fuel pump, or rebuild your pump. Bill 1-800-609-5110 satohparts.com

the fuel pump on most engines is bolted to the engine block. the hose from the tank goes to a filter then goes to the fuel pump.then from the fuel pump a hose goes to the carburator. hope u find it.

O.K. FIXED ALOT OF THE PROBLEMS, BUT FOUND A WHOLE LOT MORE. THE FUEL PUMP IS LEAKING AT THE DIAPHRAM. THIS IS GOING STRAIGHT INTO MY OIL. I CALLED AROUND, AND COULDNT FIND ONE AT A REASONABLE PRICE [I AM WAITING FOR A CALLBACK FROM A FEW OF THE DISTRIBUTORS ON THIS SITE]. I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD PUT AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP ON THE LINE AND PLUG THE HOLE WHERE THE ORIGINAL PUMP IS.

THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED GETTING GOOFY ON ME WHILE I WAS IN THERE. THE COIL IS BAD AND THE RESISTOR IS BAD ALSO.
ALSO MY STARTER IS NOW FAILING.

NOTE I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE STARTER OR COIL PRIOR TO US WORKING ON IT.

darn problems.i dont why u cant use an electric pump.it might pretty hard to find a replacement pump at a reasonable cost.jc whitney may have electric pumps.
