Gas in a Diesel Tank

I wanted to paint my gas tank to make it look nicer. The only paint at the store was green. So I bought it. My neighbor said that he heared someone during the night at my tank trying to get gas. But they stopped becuase they thought it was diesel. I'm glad the store only had green paint.

The local lumber yard kept having gas stolen at night from their storage tank. One day the when the level was low the owner added some diesel to the gas storage tank and the next day had the Police locate the the car that was driving around with a plume of smoke coming from the exhaust. Thanks for the stories. It can be really frustrating to know that when you need gas there might not be any. Then I would have to stop and run to the gas station with a can. I hate it when you have to stop working and run to the store.

The really nice thing is that my brother in laws were coming out to see us and then filling up a few gallons before they went home. It was like we will come to see you if we get gas. Well with a green tank we don't see them much its a shame. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Put in some water, anti freeze and enough gas to make it smell like gas and that thief will not be back with the same car.

Working with a Well Driller many years ago, and he thought his underground gas storage tank was leaking as he lost a hundred gallons of gas over time. Pumped it out and filled it with water so he could measure the rate of loss.

Had the same situation on a construction site. We had a 300 gallon portable tank to fill the Lull, cement mixer, etc. Toward the end of the job the tank didnt last as long as it had been. Went to town as usual but put in 50 gallons of water. The very next day a car was dead on the access road a couple hundred feet from the tank. It was an employee. He had the car towed and the tank drained. Nobody challenged him about his car and he never said much except that he got some bad gas.
