Gas generator rebuild or life expectancy

/ Gas generator rebuild or life expectancy #11
Actually, I prefer diesel to gas for backup power. When the power has been out for a week, gas is hard to get. It's very difficult to store a significant amount and keep it fresh. On the other hand, you can keep a 225 gal tote tank of diesel. The oil company will come & fill it and it will keep for a long, long time. If you have a diesel tractor, then you can rotate that fuel and keep it relatively fresh. If you have an oil furnace, more options are available. Fuel consumed/kw generated seems to be about .5 for diesel vs 1.0 for gas. If you can get an 1800 RPM genset, it will be much quieter than a 3600 RPM unit. After a prolonged power outage I really don't want to advertise that I have power and fuel to the whole world.
