Hello,
I have been following Jim57's progress on his truck patch garden project He just put in a slew of cool weather crops.

I live in NH. My garden is all but finished. This weekend I will pick the last of the tomatos and peppers. These are the hanger-ons - the plants themselves are all but dead. The growing season is definitely over. I will also start raking leaves this week end to mulch and cover the garden beds.

So I have a hard time grasping that in South Carolina you can be sowing 70 -90 day plants at the very end of September. Harvesting in November/December?? Wow! I guess I am just envious.

My only garden chores are to add organic material to the beds. Then wait for the seed catologues to arrive in Jan/Feb so I can start dreaming again about fresh homegrown tomatos.

I hear you on that one Phil. We're getting Warren's pumpkins ready for sale. Now time to pull out the old corn stalks etc. I love getting the seed catolouges and usually order to much. The good news is sugaring will be here in March. Just added a tank room/woodshed to the sugarhouse. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Gives one something to do during mud season.
Take care

I will be pulling up old plants and putting the veggie garden to bed for the winter. I think I have enough tomatos and peppers to make about 12 pints of spaghetti sauce so I will canning as well this weekend.

Sugaring is far off for me. I have to get through leaf removal first. And my prep work for sugaring is to clean out the 5 sap buckets and some white 5 gallon collection buckets. That's it. With only 5 sugar maples my set up is much more simple than yours. But as you know it is fun and good family time.

Even here in Missouri the season is about over. I suppose some of the cole crops could be put in, but nothing much else. I plan to pull all the green tomatoes this weekend, along with all the sweet and hot peppers, and make chow-chow out of them. There are a few ripe tomatoes, too. I planted some late beans, and they are ready to pick now. Kinda nice, because the cooler weather has slowed the bugs down. The only other thing left in the garden is sweet potatoes, and I'll probably dig them this weekend. It looks to be too cool outside to cure them, so I'll probably put them in the attic.

Time to see if I can find some free manure to put on the garden.
