Going to try and do some landscaping around the house but have no idea what one plant is from another. Any links that can explain different types of flowers, shrubs, ground cover etc.... When I do a search I keep getting sites like, DIY, Home Depot but nothing real in depth. Any good links out there,,,

Thanks

Get the Sunset National Garden Book and all your questions will be answered.

Amazon.com: Sunset National Garden Book: Sunset Books: Books

And visit your local nurseries (not the garden centers at the big box stores) and ask your questions there. The folks there can steer you in the right direction.

First find out what zone you are in, next keep track of how much sun the area is getting. Hostas are an easy shade fix. Then you can use different websites to narrow down your choices. After that its how much work do you want to do to maintain it.
I personally did not want to have to worry about replanting annuals every year.
I went with winterberry holly in the back, of our planting bed near our house, with hosta's inbetween and some boxwoods. perennial flowers are also mixed in. Its pretty easy to maintain, pull some weeds and trim some boxwoods in the spring and rake out the mulch. If we plant flowers its only a couple during a time when the others are not blooming and it makes life much much easier. We also planted some strawberries under some of the boxwoods to make better use of the space.
enjoy
