Sounds like a good list. Last year I found out that one basil plant would have been more than enough. Also, plant only a small amount of cilantro and then plan on replanting a month later so you have two crops. Cilantro goes to seed really quickly and you can grow several crops per year. You can also trim it back and it will delay its going to seed somewhat. Last year we planted thyme and dried and ground it. It is my favorite spice to sprinkle over italian dishes. Sweet basil is excellent sprinkled on tomato soup too.

I tried carrots one year and got only a few little knotty roots. I won't try them again. Also, when I grow corn, I'm just feeding 'coons. I love fresh sweet corn, but the 'coons will wipe out my crop.

I'm surprised you aren't growing some type of peas or beans.

I've never tried peas or beans, but I might try some butter beans and/or green beans.

I grew some cilantro and basil a couple of years ago, and you're right. The cilantro is a quick seeder.

Green beans are pretty easy to grow, mine are doing good, doesn't look like the 2 really cold nights hurt them.

I'm going to try the tators, hubby loves potatoes so he is excited about those. He doesn't do anything in my garden. Some years, he plows and discs it, but if I till it a couple of times in the winter it keeps the weeds down and the soil loose so he doesn't have to. If he were home more I'm sure he would, but he has to work when home to keep everything together. He is trying to get the oil changed in everything, my mowers running, and all that stuff as next week he is heading out to Angola. He has been home 5 months working his tail off here trying to catch up. He is gone 8 weeks and home 3 which is nice. This should be his last project, he signed a 34 month contract, which will put him at age 66. Currently he says he plans to retire then, we shall see, honestly I don't look for him to but I hope he does. Anyway I digress.

We aim to plant potatoes on Good Friday around here, and it looks like the weather will be perfect for it this year. All yukon gold for me this year. I usually plant some pontiac or la soda reds, but gave up on those this year. We love the Yukon Gold too much to waste time with anything else. I bought 50 pounds of seed potatoes this year, and am hoping to get 2 rounds of them in.

Check it out with someone local, but I'm afraid you're far past the planting window for potatoes where you live. If not past, you need them in the ground right now. They don't take heat well when they're forming tators.

I think you may be right, I usually get stuff out in late Feb, but hadn't planted potatoes before here, in fact, first time I had seen seed potatoes, got them at Tractor Supply. I'm going to give them a try anyway since I have them.

Got started on mine today. Planter potatoes, red, white, and yellow onions and English peas. A little late getting started but I'm still digging out rocks. This is the fourth year for this garden spot and I'm still digging out 40 to 50 pound rocks. It gets better every year and the rototiller is actually digging up soil and not bouncing off rocks.

I plan on planting squash, hot peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, green beans, lima beans, corn, purple hull peas, radishes, turnip greens, cantelope, watermelons and pumpkins. I think that will be enough.

The stuff I planted today is getting a nice gentle rain right now and it will probable be Monday before it drys out enough to do any more work.

We went ahead and planted 50# potatoes today, as per tradition, but with the very odd, hot weather we have had for a month, and zero rain in almost 40 days, (also very, very odd) it was a dust bowl.

So, here's to praying for some rain. Some have gotten too much, and we feel for you, but some of us are in a severe drought.

Most everything is up but the potatoes. I have to weed tomorrow, the beans are a good 6 inches tall. Then I have to water. Thought we were going to have showers but nada and its pretty dry out. I only planted 5 hills of potatoes to see how they will do.

Hope the tomatoes do well this year, want to make juice, can tomatoes, and maybe just maybe make some spaghetti sauce if there is enough.

I have tilled the garden at the church and then mine at home. Took a week to till half an acre at the church. Soil was very damp. Would till late afternoon about every other day untill I could get a good mix that was just not huge clods.

Still very wet here at my place. Tilled it once after bringing the tractor home from the church. Then got an inch of rain.

Very late garden this year. Had every thing planted by March 1 last yrar.

It was wet here in the beginning this year, but we've had a spell of dry weather and now I'd love to see 1/2" to 1" of rain. My whole garden is in and the stuff that's come up is growing, but 1/2" would really put it in turbo-growth mode. My bluebonnets would also like a drink. I've actually been putting a sprinkler on them to supplement the natural moisture. A little fertilizer also probably wouldn't hurt, but I think next year I'll do that in the fall to help them establish roots. I don't want to hit them with fertilizer now and take a chance on burning them because of the lack of rain.

Garden finally dried out enough to work and I planted cabbage plants and green beans this morning. Going to plant radishes, lettuce and turnip greens this afternoon.

Does anyone use drip-tape in their garden to irrigate. This is the first year I have used it, absolutely amazing. Also, I put a Gilmour hose end garden feeder in-line so I can run water soluble fertilizer through it. All of the fertilzer caddys were going for 50+ dollars, the gilmour was $7.99.

Just a thought and suggestion.

I tilled in some composted manure on Friday and bought some seeds. Probably do some planting this Wednesday.

Going to try once more to make it through the season without being raided by the deer. Haven't been very successful at this over the past few years.

LOL!!! Us too, but when they starts rubbin my trees, I gets out the guns.

I have to fence anything I don't want to feed to the deer, but I haven't been able yet this year to plant enough of the garden to bother putting up the fence.

I always try to plant my taters by St. Patty's day, but this year the seed potatoes are still in the bag. I managed to get a load of compost delivered in a short slightly drier spell, and I'm thinking I might just dig holes in the mud, throw in a chunk of potato, and cover them with the compost. The compost is wet, but still loose.
