How much freeken weld does something take to make it hold, evidently more than one pass. If I still have multi pass everything with 10018 then might as well stay with 7014 or 7018 rods. I went to move some brush and thought I heard a clink clunk clank ting tong ping pong, so lifted my bucket up and one fork stayed in the snowbank........

Do you have a picture of the "hook" that goes over the lip of the bucket? Looking to build something to go over the edge of a bucket to mount a pair of round bale spears to and I need a hook similar to what you have there.

Oldpath,
Last time I tried to guess what numbers meant in a welding thread I mistook PSI for dollars so this time I'll ask flat out. What do 350* and 125-200* refer to? I don't understand the asterisk.

HY80 high strength steel 1/2"-1" has to be pre-heated to 125 degrees, I cant find degree symbol on my laptop so I used the asterisk symbol.

My bucket hook was added on at the dealership, does come in handy.

That's what I would have guessed but, I'm pretty sure steel set in the sun gets above 125°F. Maybe that's all that's needed.

Preheat is mostly for inside welding and winter time and only on high strength steel.

I pretty sure problem is in yer audio sequence.

clink clunk clank ting tong ping pong

Sposta be Tink ping clang follow by sumnavbeach from behind steering wheel. Some times Tink Tang walla walla bing BANG.

Still be busted, but sound track right.

Spring stock pretty close to tool steel, will take lot of abuse. Won't take much in terms of leverage stress tho. Pretty much best you weld to carbon steel wid 309ss. L O T O F C O O O O L down time.

 I try to do things in sequence but soon go off track........

Sorry, I meant the piece on your fork bracket that hooks over the lip of the bucket as seen here:

It looks like a piece of flat that is welded at an angle, but is there more to it?

Thanks

Aaron Z

Gotha.... That bolt-on angle bar should've been an inch longer, the way it was, was like a kitty corner but weld with gap, fortunately mig welding works good on gaps. I placed a thin shim on cutting edge then clamp both pieces together, as you can see with the forks hooked on cutting edge there is less stress on 1/2" bolts. So after welding them together I unbolted and used a Ford wrench to knock the piece off...
