Gallagher post hole

Hi folks
We have a 3pl gallagher post hole auger attachment, we have just replaced the seals and bearings, the oil filler is on the under side when operational ,how much oil should go into the unit? we have put 3 litres in. It was interesting that the castings inside were MOWOG which im told is (morris wolsley mg) BRITISH diff parts, the seals were cheap but the bearings very dear and the box looks like it came from the heyday of british car manufacture.

Hi Yozza,
I have an old Gallagher PHD as well (not sure of the year or model number, but the main casting numbers are D79F and D80F with "Gallagher Engineering Ltd" identified as well). It seems you recently had success changing the seals and bearings. Do you have a list of the correct bearings and seals please? I am located in Porongurup WA and will probably get the parts from a supplier in Perth. Many thanks. IBL

Hi ibl and fellow Sandgroper it was a while ago and the unit is still with us it works fine and doesnt leak , my son in law did the repair and i will need to ask him regards where the parts came from he is in the motor trade . i used the machine down your way at my cousins vineyard in Frankland last year probably needs a smaller augar attachment as the large one is a bit worn and didnt like the hard ground much although we did add some more cutting teeth but havent tried it with the new dentures.
