NH will start Steel surcharges april 1st. If your shopping buy or put in your orders now. Even if the unit is not in dealer stock they can mark it retailed and hold the price for you until delivery.

From NH...
"Beginning April 1, 2004, a 2% surcharge on agricultural and consumer wholegoods and attachments will be added to all shipments with the exception of retail orders"

When they say "with the exception of retail orders" what exactly does that mean?

If you order a unit that the dealer does not have in stock at the time that order can be marked retailed and you will pay the price as of that date, not the price at the time of delivery. It enables dealer to give firm prices even though sales programs and surcharges change very frequently. With many companies we do not have this luxury.

Here's an article about Nucor that mentions the surcharges.

I am considering purchasing a TC33DA which the dealer has in stock along with a 14LA FEL which would have to be ordered. The dealer says there is no "program" on the tractor right now and if I wait until April there may be and he could give me a better price. Will I have to pay this surcharge on a tractor that is already on the dealers lot if I hold off until April? I assume there is no question about the FEL as it will have to be ordered. In your opinion as a NH dealer, should I buy NOW or wait until April to see if the program changes on the TC33DA /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif??

Just talked to my dealer, he thinks there could be a 8% price raise coming soon. Sure am glad my deal has been made.

It's not just steel going up either. I stocked up on hydraulic fluid today because Massey has a price increase starting tomorrow.

Hmm - first signs of inflation? I'm sure glad I got all my heavy equipment bought and financing locked in at low rates...
