It looks like the hydrostatic drive portion of the new cub 2000/2500 series is made by hydro-gear! The hydro portion is aluminum & bolted to the input side of the iron diff. & has the drive shaft bolted directly to it. The hydro assembly is fairly large, about the size of one of the big coffee cans (40oz??). The cast diff/pumpkin is large too, exterior dimensions remind me of the old school 'deere or IH Cub iron rears, of course, with a little less iron. The diff has a dipstick/fill port out the rear, and a drain hex nut on the bottom. The spin on filter base is machined into the iron diff & is fed from the pump/drive via an external steel tube. The filter is big. OD of a fram PH8A (or equivalent), but shorter. You have to get under the tractor to see the 'hydro-gear' label. I had to put'er up on ramps to see (yeah I know… I need to get a hobby!) If anyone wants the numbers off the tag, I'll crawl back under!
Thanks
Joel

I picked up a couple of intersting tid-bits. Just couldn't leave well enough alone...I emailed hydro-gear inquiring about what aftermarket oil (viscosity range) they recommend for the new CC 2000/2500 transaxles should you (some day) decide to not use cub cadet brand hydro oil. They got back to me within a couple hours stating that they ship the hydrostatic drive units to CC dry & since the hydro drive and differential share the same fluid, hydro-gear recommends using what CC specs. Come to find out, hydro-gear builds the hydro drive only (p/n BDU-10L-225) and has nothing to do with the new cast iron differential! CC sources out the cast iron diff and does the transaxle assembly themselves!?

G/luck

Cool. That's what I kinda figured. Pretty much all the newer hydro-gear units run on 50wt's
Thanks!
