Poor chap paid 10.500 to someone with a warranty for a FX24D and ran it less than an hour....toast, paid 650 more to R & R the cylinder head to find out scars in walls. Dealer will not do anything about it. I wished he had made his purchase here from one of the TBN member dealers, or at least joined this site for some honest input.

I suspect that it was one of the "New Reconditioned" models that just came apart. Also suggested he come here (TBN) and look around as he has been quoted $3K labor only to swap out engines....ridiculous and criminal.

Ernie,

That does give me a better picture of what's going on. Perhaps no one can help him as he thinks Yanmar is junk, but really it's the dealer that left him in a bad way. He should buy your engine as it seems very reasonable to me....and it would end his money pit.

...it will end the money pit unless there are other components "reconditioned" the same way the engine was! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

He had made references to Ebay and posting to tell everyone what a rotten dealer the Texas based company was. After re-visiting the site, I recognized several names offering to help but it appears he may be past that.

And yes, what is the condition of the rest of his tractor? Although I don't know both sides of the story, I do know of several first time buyers who have had their tractors breakdown in the first few hours of operation, and purchased from less than credible dealers (reconditioners?).

Hate to see it happen as it is a black stain on the honest grey market tractor dealers, and reputable ones that put their tractors on Ebay too.

Yes. Well that is the real issue isnt it? A warranty is not worth the paper it's written on if a dealer won't back it up. And purchasing the tractor out of state makes it even more difficult for legal recourse.

My understanding is he lives in Kansas and bought it thru a company in TX. (shipped maybe?).

u just file ur case in where the business was done. sometimes interstate can bring it fed court. Unless he is at fault he can win a suit. The dealer advertises parts only warrany but he says in every ad that he guarantees the tractors to be as he says they are. He says they have rebuilt engines (if needed). if his cylinder walls are that scarred then an overhaul was (needed).. easy to prove. He just needs to file in the correct court. Before he does anything he must give the dealer reasonable time to make things right. You cant just fix it anyway you want and then say you owe me money. You have to give the seller fair chance and opportunity to fix the prob.... I never thought they really rebuilt those engines but most r low hour and dont (need) sleeves etc..... I bought my 2210 from similar source..... no probs... great tractor so far....

It's one thing to rebuild an engine. It's another to completely rebuild an engine. They may have gone the short route and just pulled the head to take a peak and buttoned it right back up. Powerwashing and new paint make it look pretty on the outside. The first thing to do is to send a registered letter to the dealer demanding repair on the tractor and requesting a reply in 3 days. If no reply I would then file a claim at the courthouse in the county in which the dealer is located or my own county. l would then contact the AG in that state and file a complaint against the dealer. If it was not a money issue I would put the tractor thru his windows and him.

I know of a company up north a few hours, that has changed owners, company name and some of the staff at least 3 times in the last 18 months. The address is the same, but the LLC is completely different. So, obviously they still have my shop number and do call me from time to time and identify themselves as 'DEF Co." instead of "ABC Co." etc.

I think (IMO) when customer complaints and issues become to hot to handle, they just declare bankruptcy under corporate protection and shift owners around. I may be over simplifying but I have been contacted by three different companies concerning tractors and parts, but finding out they are all from the same location, and my original inquiries were well over a year ago.

I am not suggesting that this company(s) is responsible for the FX24D guy but it is possible. I would venture a guess that if they imported this model, and do have a direct connection to S.E.Asia, they probably netted $5K. Do this 3 or 4 times a week, pay everyone minimum wage, and take the money and run when trouble piles up.
