Hi:

I bought an Yanmar FX22D last summer

I have 2 problems

One is that all of a sudden the steering became hard.

I found a leak and fixed it.
I can not find where to put steering fluid.

Is it the reservoir up at the top - front of the tractor In front of the radiator????

Also for some reason the water leaks out when operating the tractor

I can not see any leaks

Can you help me

Thanks

Not positive but I believe there is a filler plug on the inside of the steering shaft tube (under your dash panel). Many models have that plug located there.

The water leak may be the overflow bottle (cracked/split siphon hose), water pump weep hole or bad seal in the radiator cap. I think a quick check with a pressure tester would show you immediately where your leak is.

Thanks

For the power steering
There is a tank in the upper front that has 2 tubes going to it
One at the top of the tank and other at the bottom of the tank

I will look at the place you suggested

On the leak

The tractor has been sitting for 4 days and the water level stays the same

The over flow for the water doesn't leak BUT as I am running the machine the cap keeps jumping off

JJTJR,

Sorry, I am way wrong on the steering part. I didn't realize you have power steering.

On the cap...I'am thinking it is either the wrong one, or the double lip seal is torn allowing it to free up under vibration. It could be as simple as replacing the cap.

Thanks again

I think I know where to put the power steering fluid now.

But on the water

I actually used some rubber bands to hold the cap on and it still leaked somewhere

I will pay closer attention to it when I work on it tonight

(it blows the cap off) radiator cap may be bad and lets too much coolant into the tank. Is the oil a milky color. After starting the engine with the radiator cap off is there a lot of bubbles in the coolant. (head gasket or cracked head). with the engine running slow and cold (water pump usually leaks more when cold) look for water comming from under the fan pulley. Nest with ene enfine warmed up look for small ammount of steam from hoses or commections. Dous steam come out of the exhaust?

Mine was losing some water, but all it needed was a new radiator cap. The old one looked OK, but when I changed it, the water stayed in. You might have the same problem, it would be a good place to start, anyway.

The power steering resevoir is by the radiator on the muffler side of the machine, There will be a tank with a bolt on the side, this bolt is the full mark.
On top of the tank is a yellow cap, that is the fill hole.
I use ATF in all our FX models

Joe,

Water leaking problem can be very simple to fix (bad cap) very difficult (bad head gasket) or quite impossible (cracked block). I encountered the same problem on my Yanmar AF22 but hopefully it was a bad head gasket. In Japan, farmers often put water in radiators and it generates rust in the head. Rust particles have the power to push up the gasket and to make the head leak.

Good luck

Phil
