Very soon, I anticipate buying some type diesel storage tank for bulk diesel. Right now, off-road diesel in my town costs $3.05 per gallon. I know none of us have a crystal ball, but I was wondering if anyone has some valid information on what the price of diesel may do over the next month or two.

I read somewhere that the price of diesel is normally lowest this time of the year. I just want the best price possible when I buy in bulk.

Thanks

If I could predict that, I'd be wealthy enough to buy a bigger machine!

I'm with nspec in that I don't have a crystal ball -- if I did I would be trading futures. The Gulf Coast Harbor Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) futures contracts (as of Friday) indicate rising prices until December.

we filled our diesel tank up the other day for $3 a gallon.you cant predict fuel prices at all.we just buy it when the tank is empty.

It use to be spring time was a good time to buy. Heating oil demands were winding down helping bump up supplies. Now I'm not so sure. Any one thing could set the prices into a tail spin or skyrocketing. Of course the tailspin isn't very likely.

Oil prices are so manipulated these days it's utterly ridiculous. The press doesn't help. Traders are just looking for an excuse to raise the price. The latest is the trouble in Egypt. We've seen this all before. The price will rise to the point where the public will cut back, then it will pull back slightly as demand eases. They want to see how much the public will bear. It's all baloney, and frankly it's becoming disgusting. I truly feel that the American people need to make a far bigger stink about fuel prices. Last time around, there were some isolated protests, but the politicians are in bed with the lobbyists, and the oil companies have such a strong lobby in Washington.

It really kills me. Mr. Toyota is summoned to testify in Washington (btw, if I were him, I would have told everyone to go s***w - we all know that the Toyotas never had those problems. It was all concocted by Washington to discredit Toyota right at the same time GM and Ford were about to tank!), but nobody ever calls the oil company CEO's to testify? Why are they allowed to report such huge profits at the cost of the American public? Where is the outrage?

Bottom line, there really is no rhyme nor reason to the price changes anymore. You really can't predict when the price will rise or fall, as any little thing blown out of proportion by the press can set it off.

Another thing to consider.... In certain states you can get a rebate or tax credit for fuel bought with road taxes being used for agriculture use. You need to save the recepts and only the road tax is refunded but it does save you some. Check your states dept of revenue and get the forms. Your second choice is a second tank and use home heating oil which does not have road tax and is considersbly cheaper. It is missing a coloring used by DOT to make sure your not using it in on road vehicles, but in a tractor would be legal.

Diesel is a commodity driven by world wide demand and therefore subject to speculation. Normally, there is more diesel available in the Spring when the deamand for heating oil goes down in the US but the US isn't the only player. China and India's growing economies are add to the demand so that tends to increase the competition for refined products. All the political uncertainty in the mid-East is certainly contributing to "feelings" of uncertainity in the supply and that will support higher prices. Spring means plowing and planting and with grain supplies down and prices up, look for more acres to be planted this Spring, also increasing domestic demand.

If I had to guess, I would say don't get your hopes up for a drop in price any time soon. Off road diesel in our part of the country is about $3.04 per US gallon right now and I don't look for that to get any better. I believe the price will increase over and abobve the preent price.
