and I I guess I should mention that where the shop is, I don't (and by that I mean the wife)driving over the yard to get to any tank I have out there, that's why I was thinking the 50 gallon drums:confused:

Is there really a price difference between the delivered fuel and the 50 gallon drum?
There is a delivery charge, not sure the exact amount

*Do u use the fuel in your tractor also ?
I am new to the rural living, and will admit that I never knew you could that, or that it is was the same thing

Home depot has the legit 275 gal tanks pretty cheap
I will check into that, thanks, seems the only I could find were the big 1000 gallon ones

I guess I should mention that where the shop is, I don't (and by that I mean the wife)driving over the yard to get to any tank I have out there, that's why I was thinking the 50 gallon drums

All I've got to go by is the guy that delivers my oil to me, but he parks in my driveway and runs his hose around to the back of the house where the tank is. It always seems like he's still got half his hose on his reel. There's a good possibility that your guy is going to get the fuel to your tank without a lot of damage to your yard.

Even if you use 50 gallon drums, you're still going to have to get them to the shop somehow. I'm guessing it's going to involve driving accross the yard.

About the delivery charge... I'd ask. There may only be a delivery charge if you're taking under a certain minimum. Also, I'd ask around. The reason I like Oil heat is because if one supplier gets a little too big for his britches, I can just call one of the other 5 in the area and get better service at a better price. The suppliers know that, and they know they have to provide good service and be competetive.

1*I was wondering if you can just get the 50 gallon drums of oil hooked up to this somehow rather then having to pay the delivery guy who fills up the house tank.
2*I can just pick up one of the drums from the station in town and just keep swapping them out as I need it.
3*Currently for my house, I have a (I think) an 800 gallon tank, that just gets filled every month whether I need it or not.
4*There is a delivery charge, not sure the exact amount
5*I am new to the rural living, and will admit that I never knew you could that, or that it is was the same thing.
6*I will check into the 275 gal tanks thanks, seems the only ones I could find were the big 1000 gallon ones.

1*Are you talking about getting the fuel from the same place or would the 800 gallon tank be getting filled by one place and the 50 gallon drum coming from a different place?
Pay the delivery guy What ?
2*If this is a different place why not just stick with the guy you're getting it from now?
Are you talking about drums of on road or off road stuff here?
3*All you need to do is continue doing this and simply draw out 55 gallon into a 55 gallon drum as need.
An 800 gallon tank being filled monthly should handle all your needs for the house the shop and the tractor.
Do what I'm saying and you can forget about delivery fees & chasing around after drums of fuel.
4*Who charges it The guy filling the 800 gallon tank or the place with the 50 gallon drums?
5*Sure Can.
No way in the world would I be trotting off to the gas station to pay 40 to sixty cents more a gallon for fuel for my tractor with 800 gallon of it setting at home in a tank.
6*You don't need/want a 275 gallon tank as it is to big for what you want to do and it could leave you with fuel going stale on you.

I just went through all this kind of stuff last spring when I set up my Pump & Drum fuel storage out fit.
Been there done that larn't a little.:D
1*Even if you use 50 gallon drums, you're still going to have to get them to the shop somehow. I'm guessing it's going to involve driving across the yard.
3*There may only be a delivery charge if you're taking under a certain minimum.
4*Also, I'd ask around.

1*This is true but I see no point in having to fuss with getting the drums to and from his place on top of that especially when he already has home delivery .
The one 800 gallon tank will handle all the fuel he needs for the house workshop and his tractor.
3*The guy filling the 800 gallon tank shouldn't charge any delivery charge .
800 gallons is way way over the 100 to 300 minimums everybody else requires.
There should not be any delivery charge for the guy to fill a 55 gallon drum either.
Ya just bought 50 gallon extra so now he's gonna sock you with a delivery charge cause you made a bigger purchase.
NO WAY : That Don't Cut It!
4*That's ok . but don't get it from 2 different places as one or both may hook you with delivery charges.
