That's why it's a good idea to carry a boat anchor. Don't laugh, it works! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyone who uses a winch regularly should have a "Pull Pal" winch anchor. They're not cheap, but they work really well.

Let's separate the old four wheeler guys and gals from the newbies.

Remember Granville King of Off Road magazine? And how he advocated burying your spare as an anchor when winching yourself out in the desert?

Now he was a character...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you look at that picture you'll notice I got the rear wheels out of the mud simply by lifting up that piece of iron. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually the way I got that chunk out was to lift and drag with the boom. When I got it up close to the tractor I'd put the tractor in reverse, push the boom out with no weight on it. I'd go out about ten feet and then stop. Pick up the weight and pull it back to the tractor. Then start all over again.

Mud isn't near as much fun for those who work in it as it's for those who play in it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Just curious as to what the tow bill was. The guy doing the finish work on our manufactured home got stuck in our driveway, almost slid off into the gulley (would've totalled the truck). The tow bill was $2000! He got stuck a few days later, sunk to the axles up by the house (he found the root ball hole). I jacked that rig up with my long frame floor jack and kept stuffing firewood under the tires. The truck weighed over 15k lbs, I was whooped. I got him out, no wrecker. Boy was he glad. His boss told me the moral to that story was to negotiate a fixed price BEFORE hookup! As a boater, it makes sense to me as I'm used to the maritime salvage laws.

We installed our 500gallon propane tank right by the road to keep the truck out of the property. It took two regulators, a high pressure and a low pressure because of the long run. The neighbors don't like it, I'll dress it up later with some decorative fencing when we put our gate up.

By the way, did you guys try using the outriggers on that propane truck to lift it up to throw junk under the tires?
