You do need a filter after the fuel pump. If anything happens to the little, cheap fuel pump, there will be nothing to stop crap from going into your injection pump. That is what the second filter is for.

That could happen.

Agreed! I don't plan on removing that filter.

When I first got the tractor, the rear was kinda grungy looking and I changed them both out. The rear was still flowing just fine, but black and ugly. The front one was clean as a whistle. I decided I would keep an eye on it but not change it unless it needs it.

I'll keep it there and let it be my safety net. Last chance to catch junk that might damage the injector pump. It will probably never need changing.

I'd ditch whatever container the fuel was in and use 5 gallon jugs. Also ditch any additives. I'm always careful with fuel too. Stock filters are ok...but you have to service them twice a year or as needed. Sounds like yours were lacking some service. I do have a racor on mine and it's nice to see the fuel with the clear bowl....or the water. In my avatar you can see my racor at mid tractor, it's below the fuel pump so it will catch water easy.

The smaller Kubotas aren't a high pressure direct injection system so....

I'm wondering what kind of diesel doesn't have high pressure injection? The pics sure looked like high pressure lines. High compression engine, needs pressure to get the fuel in and atomize the fuel. Usually around 2000psi +/-. Even pre-combustion(not direct inject) diesels use high pressure. Pre-combustion lowers emissions. used in mines a lot. Or use to.

He meant it is not a common rail diesel running 44,000psi.

Most all tractors are not since the perfection of common rail is sort of coming of age in smaller engines. I'm sure due to pollution regs and making engines more quiet the common and simple "Bosch" style system will fade away. But tractors last a long time!! :) Thank goodness.

That's what I meant, they aren't the real high pressure of the common rail systems so they are going to be more forgiving of bad fuel.
