Oil & Fuel Fuel Line Insulator

The other day when I was servicing my Cub the foam insulation that covers the fuel line just fell apart. Do I need to replace this or will it be okay without it? There are 2 pieces, separated by the fuel filter. The lower side is the one that fell apart.
I don't know if the heat from the engine will affect the fuel line without it.

What do ya all think?

I have an 08 2542 and there is no insulation. Rubber line to and from the filter.

The old 1872 had fuel line laying directly on the engine..............for 20 years

My son and I stopped by the local dealer ( my wife wasn't with us... LOL) so I got a chance to check out the different models. I noticed the 2500 series cubs don't have the fuel line insulation. SO, it must be no big deal.

One thing that kinda impressed me is other than the deck sizes the 2544 and 2550 are the same tractor. They didn't have a 2554 so I don't know if the engine had a few more HP.

I suspect they had good reason to put the insulation there. The way companies are today they save every penny they can and not put in something they don't need. I would replace it.
