Oil & Fuel fuel gauge on 4700

My fuel gauge on my 4700 was stuck under the little peg on the empty side of the gauge so I took it apart and moved it back where it belonged. Then it was stuck on full for a while. Now I noticed it is back under the little peg again. Is this just a sending unit problem or do I need a new gauge?

Open the hood and find the wires going to the fuel senser. Disconnect the orange and it should go to empty. Connect them together and watch the guage That should cause it to rise to full. If guage works the sensor is bad. (You will also need to verify the ground is good for the guage and sensor)
