I saw a pic on this site of a set of pliars that are made to take off the fuel filter ring. The inside of the pliars were shaped just like the ring.

Does anyone know where I can find these pliars? I do not really want to use channel locks.

I use the type of pliers Jim has linked for filter rings that are overtightened. Unless you have a physical limitation, hand tight is sufficient for the filter nut anyway. It is just not an application where a lot of torque is needed, or desirable.

my ring wasn't too tight and i used a large set of the channel lock adjustable pliers. just enough to grab the ridges, of course figuring out which way to turn them was the hard part for me. ;>)

The ring doesn't need to be real tight anyway, i put it back on just by hand and no leaks after 5 months

Try to loosen it while wearing a leather glove. That should give you all the grip you need.

When I change my fuel filter on my NH - TC - 29 I use a channel lock and you turn it LEFT...to the left...remember lefty = loosey and righty = tighty ..LOL - I have a FEL so it is really tight in there and you are probably afraid you will twist the bowl off ..I try to hold the bottom of the bowl with one hand and turn the channel locks with the other ...to the left...LOL

I just today tried to remove the filter ring on my tractor. Broke a small rubber strap type wrench and the channel lock plier that I have is not quite large enough to grip the ring. I'm glad this question came up because I really needed an idea that would work. I'll have to get one of these filter pliers and give it a try!:D

Allen KDT3324 Oil Filter Wrench Swivel Handle 2-1/2 to 3in.

Most auto supply stores have them. It slips over the filter and as you push on the handle it tightens up around the filter and then spins it off.
